About Texas Baptist Men Camp Building Ministry
The Texas Baptist Men Camp Building Ministry operates under the umbrella of the Texas Baptist Men, Baptist General Convention of Texas, 333 N. Washington, Dallas, TX 75246-1798 (telephone 214-828-5350).
We are a group of retired Baptist men and wives, doing volunteer work primarily in the Texas Baptist Encampments for the sole purpose of BRINGING GLORY AND HONOR TO GOD.
TBM Camp Building Ministry members travel at their own expense to donate their services. All are Christians with a desire to WIN THE LOST TO CHRIST. The TBM Camp Building Ministry realizes that the ratio of decisions made for Christ and attendance at Baptist Camps is greater than in any other organized worship services. Most of these decisions are made by young people who have a full life of service to give to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Because we are volunteers, we are free to come and go, as our personal needs dictate. Whenever possible, we work through the scheduled job duration.
We are glad we are a part of the family of God and always enjoy BUILDING FOR THE GLORY OF GOD.
Most of our work is at the thirty (30) Baptist Encampments located throughout the state of Texas. There are also opportunities to work with the Church Builders, Special Projects and other TBM groups on projects that may be located in any state or out of the country. We do new construction, remodeling and repairs.
The following information should answer many questions about the Texas Baptist men Camp Building Ministry:
Do I have to be a carpenter or builder?
No - in fact most of our volunteers are from non-building trades or professions. We have several skilled men who are our leaders, but represented in the group are: farmers, oil industry workers, office workers, school teachers, professors, missionaries and even preachers along with electricians, plumbers and a few carpenters. Our people are those who enjoy working for the Lord and want to stay active. We invite anyone who feels called to do this type of work to join us.
What are the requirements to join TBM Camp Builders?
1. You must have the desire and time to do volunteer Christian work.
2. A livable recreation vehicle is desirable; but not mandatory. Full RV hook-ups are provided by each camp. Motel style rooms are usually available for those without RVs.
3. Personal hand tools are helpful, but not essential. A fully equipped tool trailer is always on site.
4. Visit our "CONTACT US" pages and ask to be placed on the mailing list. You will then receive our newsletter, which describes each new project and contains other useful information about TBM Campbuilders.
5. Just show up at any job site that you choose ready to work! Come whenever you can and leave when you must.
How long are the projects and how much am I expected to work?
The projects vary in length. We hardly ever work less than two (2) weeks, and some projects may be four (4) weeks or longer. We have a pretty good indication when we start each project as to its length. You work as long as you choose. IT'S UP TO YOU!! We do not work on weekends.
What do the wives do?
They are involved in a variety of activities: Daily devotionals, helping in the camp kitchen with meals and breaks, working in the office, etc. Some are involved in sewing projects for special mission needs. Recently they have put together over 100 "ugly quilts" for homeless ministries in the cities. They also have made scores of girls' dresses and boys' shirts for distribution in orphanages and children's homes. They have also collected and repaired used eyeglasses for the River Ministry. Our wives are busy and most feel a "calling" to this type of ministry.
Other pertinent information:
The host camp on each working day usually provides noon meals. Breaks are taken at midmorning and midafternoon. We often attend a local church on Sunday mornings as a group. We have our own worship services on Sunday and Wednesday nights at the Camps. We play games and fellowship together at other times.
WARNING:
Participation in this group may be habit forming and contagious. You may become addicted as we "BUILD FOR THE GLORY OF GOD!"
